It is with great admiration and appreciation that I nominate Jacqueline Arevalo, RN, for the DAISY Award. Jacqueline consistently exemplifies what it means to be a compassionate and dedicated nurse. Her kindness, empathy, and unwavering commitment to patient care make a lasting impression on everyone she encounters—patients, families, and colleagues alike.
Jacqueline goes above and beyond not only for her patients but also for her team. She is always willing to lend a helping hand, regardless of how busy her day may be. Her selflessness and teamwork foster a supportive environment that uplifts everyone around her.
A natural leader, Jacqueline often steps into the role of relief charge nurse with confidence and grace. She handles the pressures and complexities of the position effortlessly, making sure both patient care and team dynamics remain strong. Her calm demeanor and problem-solving abilities bring a sense of stability during even the most stressful shifts.
Jacqueline also plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of nurses. She frequently precepts new hires and genuinely enjoys teaching. Her guidance is patient, thorough, and encouraging, making new nurses feel welcome and empowered to grow in their practice.
Patients regularly share positive feedback about the care they receive from Jacqueline, often highlighting her attentiveness, compassion, and professionalism. Additionally, she is a strong advocate for her team, speaking up when concerns arise and ensuring that the unit functions cohesively and respectfully.
Recently, Jacqueline’s nursing practice, clinical judgment, and confidence in her own actions taken in the moments surrounding a patient fall were instrumental in uncovering a critical malfunction in our fall prevention software. Rather than allowing the incident to be misattributed to human error and potentially dismissed, Jacqueline thoughtfully questioned the circumstances and stood firm in her assessment/ actions taken. Her vigilance prompted a deeper investigation, which revealed a failure within the system itself. Because of her professionalism and commitment to patient safety, we were able to take immediate action to implement safeguards, mitigate further risk, and engage the vendor for a thorough evaluation and resolution. Jacqueline’s actions not only protected our patients but also strengthened our trust in the clinical decision-making process and the importance of speaking up when something doesn’t seem right.
Jacqueline’s dedication to her patients and her colleagues truly enhances the quality of care delivered on her unit and throughout our hospital. Her presence makes a meaningful difference every day, and for these reasons and many more, she is incredibly deserving of the DAISY Award.
