Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Lexi quickly assessed my worsening condition and made me her top priority.
My husband and I are honored to nominate Lexi for the DAISY Award in recognition of her outstanding dedication, compassionate care, and unwavering support for both me as the patient and her colleagues. Lexi truly embodies the spirit of this award through her kindness, expertise, and commitment to excellence in nursing.
Lexi consistently demonstrated an extraordinary level of care and encouragement, not only to me as a patient but also for my family. Her ever-present smile and positive attitude created a comforting environment, even in the most challenging situations. She is a knowledgeable nurse and an excellent trainer for new orientees, always taking the time to explain procedures, answer questions, and provide reassurance without being demanding.
A true team player, Lexi went above and beyond to support me. On her day off, she attended a unit council meeting and took the time to visit and check in with how I was doing, showcasing her dedication and genuine care for those around her.
One particularly remarkable instance of Lexi's excellence occurred when I experienced post-surgical complications, including severe abdominal bloating and discomfort. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Lexi quickly assessed my worsening condition and made me her top priority. She immediately contacted the physician, reassured both me and my family, and explained every step of the process to the orientee. Her advocacy ensured I had choices and maintained a sense of control during a frightening situation requiring the placement of an NG tube. Despite it being the end of a long weekend, Lexi confidently and skillfully placed the NG tube, alleviating my distress while maintaining her signature positive and caring demeanor.
Lexi's ability to balance technical expertise with heartfelt compassion makes her a true teddy bear in the best sense - warm, comforting, and always looking out for the well-being of those in her care. Her dedication to nursing extends beyond individual patients; she nurtures and strengthens the entire healthcare team, creating an environment of support and excellence.
