Hollie had comfortably covered her with the blanket we had brought in and placed our favorite family picture with her in bed. The amount of love and kindness we felt from that gesture cannot be put into words.
In January, my wife “C” was transported to the ER via ambulance for a sudden, debilitating headache. A brain hemorrhage was discovered, and she was admitted to SICU that evening, where Hollie was our nurse. It was quickly evident that we were in the best of hands. Unfortunately, my wife's condition deteriorated throughout the day. In the late evening, my wife required a life-saving intubation. The process and decision were beyond painful and heart-wrenching for me and our two sons. And now for the amazing part of the story: after a successful procedure, our sons and I made our way back to the room where our matriarch was finally in a restful state.
Hollie had comfortably covered her with the blanket we had brought in and placed our favorite family picture with her in bed. The amount of love and kindness we felt from that gesture cannot be put into words. Forever imprinted in our hearts and minds. It was an unforgettable act of compassion, one that we could never repay. The best we can do is share the story, give her our thanks & ask that she be recognized with a DAISY Award. Hollie was a beacon of strength, hope, and world-class care, never wavering once through our incredibly difficult time. She always seemed to know when to offer care, answer our forthright questions, or just stay relatable to us during our most difficult time.
Today, my wife continues to make incredible progress at ARI and hopes to be discharged at the end of this month. So many people have helped us in the process, but none so powerfully, so poignantly, as Hollie DeBlock. When I tell our friends and family about Hollie, I tell them of a “superhuman” and one of the most incredible individuals that I have encountered in my lifetime. For that, I feel a bouquet of daisies might do.
