I would like to nominate Sara George for the DAISY Leader Award. Sara is an excellent nurse and nurse leader. She ensures that her programs are successful not only through accreditation but also in providing everyday care for the special populations she serves. Sara has initiated numerous improvement processes for the stroke program, as well as ensuring reaccreditation. She ensured both initial accreditation and re-accreditation for the chest pain center. Sara cares for the entire community, participating in community events to increase awareness of stroke and heart disease prevention. Most importantly, she ensures that front-line nurses are empowered to care for these populations through education, training, and improved care processes.

Sara demonstrates leadership ability by supporting the nurses at the bedside and beyond. When a stroke alert (ED), STEMI alert, or code purple fast (inpatient) is called, she is at the bedside to assist. She completes debriefing and case reviews with nursing staff so they can learn from every encounter. She has created recognition programs to support good outcomes and recognize staff for their hard work and dedication. Sara is willing to assist with any emergency while running her programs with great finesse and collaboration.
