She was calm yet firm in giving instructions and encouragement while pushing. She made me feel amazing.
Amber was amazing during my delivery. First off, she is a person who can read a room and determine the personalities of those in it, adjusting accordingly. This is a skill, and one that in these specific situations is extremely valuable. My husband and I are opposites, with one being very social and the other more reserved. She found a way to relate and connect with both of us. We were all laughing, smiling, and had a good time even through a sometimes hard process because of her. She knew when to talk about us, when to talk about her, when to talk about the random, and when to be silent. Truly, her interpersonal skills were great.

Next was her dedication to our process and care. While I did not have a birth plan, my water broke earlier despite my not being very dilated. I was open to anything, but had noted I would rather get things moving the natural way as opposed to meds. She embraced this and made sure it happened. We walked together, did the ball, did the breast pump, had maneuvers for positioning, and even openly took recommendations from my best friend, who lives out of state and is a labor and delivery nurse. That was amazing! Another nurse may have been offended or felt as if their toes were stepped on, but not Amber. She had the same plans in mind as my friend and even went so far as to ask if my friend had others and explain the process of each.

Once things really got “cooking”. She was extremely supportive and knowledgeable. I know she made me a priority. If we needed something, she got it! For instance, the epidural positioner was being used by others, but she knew I would need it based on where I was at, so she waited and got it in there just in time instead of just sitting back and trying something make-shift. I know she would have made it work if we couldn’t have found one, but the fact that she went above and beyond to get what she knew I needed was amazing. When the pain was high, she caught on that I am a do-it-myself person and knew to back away and just give verbal support. She was awesome. She got my husband involved to a level that made him feel comfortable and included him in the process.

Then, when we were able to start pushing, she made it fun with guesses on time for all involved. She was calm yet firm in giving instructions and encouragement while pushing. She made me feel amazing. She bonded with my husband by noticing his emotions when he saw our daughter. I know it meant a lot to him to know someone saw his normally less expressive self. Once the whole process was over, she stuck around later than her shift to ensure we were all set. She really was absolutely amazing! Thank you, Amber! We were lucky to have you with us every step of the way!
