My father was in the final days/hours of his life, and Lakeisha Waller was his assigned nurse in the ICU night shift. Even though we didn't interact in person until the night of his death, I was able to tell through her notes in his chart that she cared immensely for my dad. Once we were notified that my dad was in his final moments, Lakeisha supported and loved every member of our family like we were her own. Later, we learned that my dad's final words were a request to Lakeisha not to leave his side. Forsaking her own needs —food, water, bathroom, etc. —she sat by my father's side tirelessly. She was with him and us until the very end. This kind of support is immeasurable, valuable in these times of grief, and it means the world to me that Lakeisha never left my dad's side. Thank you will never be enough for this sweet human. She deserves the world.
