By the time he was ready to go, Madison had pulled together new steel-toe work boots, pants, shirts, socks, and boxer briefs. The patient was incredibly grateful.
Madison cared for a patient in the Neuro ICU who had been in an accident while heading home from work near Hart, Texas. He only spoke Spanish, but Madison was able to connect with him and communicate effectively, showing both kindness and understanding throughout his stay. When it came time for his discharge, the patient inquired about his personal belongings—specifically, some cash, his boots, a pair of pants, and a shirt. Madison searched everywhere, calling every department he had been in before arriving in the Neuro ICU. Unfortunately, the items couldn’t be found. During their conversation, the patient mentioned that he owned only two pairs of pants; the boots he came in with were his only pair, and he didn’t have many shirts at home either. Hearing this, Madison quietly found out his clothing and shoe sizes and immediately coordinated with the management team to get him what he needed. She didn’t have much time—his ride was already on the way—but she made it happen. By the time he was ready to go, Madison had pulled together new steel-toe work boots, pants, shirts, socks, and boxer briefs. The patient was incredibly grateful. I’m so proud to have a nurse like Madison on our team—someone who not only provides excellent care but consistently goes above and beyond for her patients.
