I am honored to nominate Nathan Weaver for the DAISY Award. Nathan began his nursing journey in the medical surgical pool as a new graduate in 2020, amidst the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the tumultuous environment, Nathan embraced the opportunity with a positive attitude and commitment.
Throughout his first year, Nathan demonstrated remarkable empathy and compassion, providing exceptional care to all his patients. His meticulous attention to detail ensured medication, safety, and contributed to a culture of excellence within our hospital. Eager to enhance his clinical skills, Nathan joined the unit-based council. He actively engages in initiatives to enhance patient care.
As Nathan’s confidence and expertise grew, he graciously accepted the responsibility to precept core staff and travelers, sharing his knowledge and fostering a supportive learning environment. Our hospital has faced a significant challenge of inconsistent charge nurse coverage. Nathan's leadership and flexibility have been crucial in filling this gap, ensuring continuity and stability across various units. His ability to step into the role of charge, particularly during the critical opening of West 5500, exemplifies his dedication to our team and the patients we serve. His ongoing support for units like H8000, which is in the process of training new staff, further demonstrates his exceptional ability to undertake roles of significant responsibility.
Recently, his leader on East 3100 sent this recognition. “Nathan, thank you for the thorough and clear tier 1 huddle that you ran when you floated to East 3100 on Monday night. You do a great job as charge, and we are appreciative of your help filling in charge gaps on our unit. The unit is in good hands when you’re here. Thank you for all that you do!”
