His actions demonstrated compassion and care not only for the patient but also for the family.
The patient's young granddaughter was scared to see her grandfather in his current condition. Nurse Begley asked if she would like him to explain his treatment. The granddaughter agreed, and he explained his condition and treatment in a way she could understand. His actions demonstrated compassion and care not only for the patient but also for the family. As a nurse being trained to heal, his little act of kindness towards the family made a huge difference in our lives.

My dad is 91 and very independent and unable to hear without his hearing aides, which he lost the day before he was admitted to the ICU. Corey spoke loud and clear. He did everything he needed to do to ensure Dad was aware of what was going on. Corey was very attentive and immediately assisted Dad with anything he asked. She was there before Dad asked, at times seeming to anticipate his needs. Corey took the time to explain the procedures to the family as well. Often explaining multiple times in multiple different ways. He offered my mother assistance in the most caring way. Always made sure the family did not need anything. Dad does not express feelings much, but her repeatedly told us what a good nurse Corey was, and he even got emotional. Dad said he had never had someone take such good care of him in a hospital. We can not express enough how Corey's efforts and kindness helped both Dad and the family.

My mother recently had an unexplained hospital stay. When people look at my mother, they often assume her weight is her main issue. She was very timid about asking for help in any way and disliked having a male provide her personal care. Corey made her feel as if she was more than a patient. He recognized her as an individual and more than just a number. Even after being moved out of the ICU to the floor, she always teased that none of the other nurses were as good to her as Corey. Corey truly deserves to be recognized for the care he provides to patients and for not judging them or making assumptions based on their appearance.
