We want to nominate Sarah for the DAISY Award in recognition of her compassion, expertise, and advocacy during our time at Memorial Hermann. It is evident that Sarah has a positive impact on the patients she cares for, as well as their families. I watched her show care and dedication to my husband as he faced many challenges. He was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré and had no function in his legs, torso, and very little movement of his arms. Sarah went above and beyond, showing exceptional empathy, tending to his medical needs, but also connecting with him on a personal level, encouraging him daily. She took the time to understand his pain and frustration as she was asked over and over to adjust his position, trying to find the most comfortable spot for him. Sarah was knowledgeable and understood the severity of his condition. She was always prepared to explain procedures, answer questions, and listen to our concerns.

Sarah demonstrated a passion for my husband’s care and his needs during this hard time for us. She never came into the room, frustrated after we called for her many times. Sarah is a true example of an extraordinary nurse in many ways. Her ability to connect with patients and their families, her advocacy in helping my husband, and her knowledge. He, at times, was demanding due to pain and no movement, but she always was trying to make him comfortable and in touch, communicating with his Neuro team to find the best option and care for my husband. We are truly grateful that we had the opportunity to have Sarah as our nurse on many of our days here. She was a bright light in our lives, and we knew we were receiving exceptional care from her. Sarah deserves recognition for her outstanding abilities as a nurse. She will continue to impact the lives of many others, just as she has done for my husband and me.
