Prompt treatment by my nurse, Greg, and his being an advocate for me when it came to medications ensured that I had a successful outcome and was able to go home the same day.
I have a long history of having Myasthenia Gravis. I recently had the flu and began to have difficulty breathing. I felt my throat was closing, and I started to panic. My wife brought me to the ER and the VA hospital, and she called for help getting me inside as our small daughter was with us. Greg came right out to get me, assured my wife he was going to take care of me, and she should park the car and come in. Once my wife arrived in the room with me, my nurse, Greg, was quick to update her on what had been decided and what tests had been done and still needed to be done. This was a very stressful situation for me and my family. Greg stayed calm and composed the entire time. His calmness eased my own anxiety as well as my wife’s. When I was ordered the antibiotic Azithromycin, my wife questioned why this medication was being ordered with my history of Myasthenia Gravis. My nurse, Greg, was quick to discuss the medication with the provider, and the decision was made to use a lower-risk antibiotic for my illness. Greg even came back to talk with my wife and me about the literature he reviewed about the contraindications of Azithromycin and Myasthenia Gravis. This is a very uncommon disease that I have had to live with for over 20 years. I was diagnosed with the flu and strep throat. Prompt treatment by my nurse, Greg, and his being an advocate for me when it came to medications ensured that I had a successful outcome and was able to go home the same day. Greg has a great temperament in emergency situations, he is an advocate for his patients, and he left a very positive impression on me and my wife. Greg went above and beyond the call of duty that day to ensure I had positive outcomes!
