She talked me through each contraction, helping me focusing on my breathing and pushing. She never left my side through the birth of my child.
I developed gestational hypertension in my 36 week of pregnancy and was scheduled for an induction the following week. Kaitlin was my day shift nurse who assisted in the induction process. This was my first child, so I was extremely anxious and overwhelmed with the induction process. Kaitlin was extremely compassionate but direct while giving me patient care. She made sure I understood all my options and was very patient with me while I was struggling to make medical decisions. After receiving the epidural, it did not fully take all the way. And she helped advocate for me when I knew something wasn’t right. Kaitlin was also scheduled for the following morning.

When she came in the next day, I was at 9 cm and was prepping to deliver. It was comforting to have a nurse I was already familiar with, returning for my patient care. I had complained overnight of back pain, and she immediately offered me a heating pad to help ease a muscle spasm. She worked with me on different positions to help me get to 10 CM after they broke my water. When my son’s heart rate started to drop, she was quick to react and had me change positions repeatedly to stabilize him. She kept calm, while remaining firm with me to help me understand the seriousness of the situation. Once I was ready to deliver, it was only Kaitlin and my husband in the room. It made the delivery very intimate. She talked me through each contraction, helping me focusing on my breathing and pushing. She never left my side through the birth of my child. After I was unhooked from my epidural and was able to walk, she assisted me using the restroom and showing me how to take care of myself after birth. She assisted me in trying to get my son to latch to start breastfeeding. She made sure that I had food ordered from the cafeteria and found me a soda on a different floor when L&D ran out.

Kaitlin saw me through all phases of my delivery, and I will remember her forever. As my husband said, she was a saint for putting up with me. Kaitlin’s personality and bedside manner are unlike any I have ever experienced in a nurse. She was made for this role, and I am forever grateful to her. I wanted her to know how much she is appreciated.
