She listened with genuine compassion, answered all of our questions and addressed the many concerns we had. She never rushed in or out of the room and always gave us as much of her time as we needed.
No words can truly express the gratitude our family feels for Bridget Jensen and the care she gave our Dad at Audubon County Hospital.
In December of 2022, Dad was admitted to the hospital and was diagnosed with severe bleeding on the brain. His condition was terminal with a life expectancy of 1 to 3 days. He was placed in hospice care at the hospital on the same day of admission.
As the family gathered at the hospital on that first day, Bridget was the nurse assigned to care for Dad. We knew the days ahead would be difficult, but Bridget went above and beyond to help us through this sad time.
Bridget’s knowledge and explanation of what happens internally to someone in Dads condition allowed us to understand what was happening to him throughout the process. She listened with genuine compassion, answered all of our questions and addressed the many concerns we had. She never rushed in or out of the room and always gave us as much of her time as we needed.
Not only did Bridget take care of the big things when caring for Dad, it was the little things she did that also made a difference. She made sure he was shifted from side to side throughout the day, she kept his lips and mouth moisturized and placed cool compresses on his forehead. Dad was not conscious, but she did all she could to assure us he was comfortable. Bridget cared for our dad with great dignity and respect.
She also took good care of us. Bridget made sure we had plenty of coffee and snacks to get us through those few days. She frequently showed concern for our well-being and was receptive to any concerns we had. She shared a personal story with us that showed she could relate to what we were going through. At one point she also shared in our tears.
Bridget is a dedicated nurse who demonstrates compassion for others while always maintaining standards of professionalism in nursing. We want Bridget to know how much we appreciate her and how thankful we are that she was by our side during this time.
