I would say that her positive attitude, the evident love she has for her patients, the job she has, and her empathetic personality helped ease the pain I felt.
I am a 23-year-old, and I went to U of M to have a hysterectomy. I have been to other hospitals, where the nursing staff were rude and judgmental towards me, as I have high anxiety, which can make me cry and panic a lot, and I cry quite hysterically at times. This had instilled a fear of hospital settings. Abby handled my anxiety with such professionalism and kindness that it made my recovery go by so much smoother; she never once made me feel bad for being extra emotional, her primary focus was my well-being, both physical and emotional, and I never felt judged.

I didn't feel like I was being rushed to leave the building, and I felt as though I was a real person, not just a number to her. I was terrified coming out of surgery, but Abby helped me feel safe and comfortable while I was there. She was always readily available with anything I needed and helped me through a really hard experience. Due to the medications I was on, I had to manually breathe the whole time. I kept forgetting to do so, and my O2 stats would drop frequently. She was always there and on top of reminding me to breathe and making sure my vitals were steady. It would've been much worse without her consistent attention. I would say that her positive attitude, the evident love she has for her patients, the job she has, and her empathetic personality helped ease the pain I felt.

Abby may have had many patients, but she still made sure to have plenty of time for me when I needed something. She was a bright, shining star that illuminated the dread that usually accompanies hospital stays. Abby may not remember me in a few days, and I know she has many patients, but I want to make it known to her and everyone else that I won't forget her and the wonderful way she cared for me. I couldn't have asked for a better nurse and experience than what I had with Abby. I hope everyone who is her patient knows how lucky they are to have a nurse who made me feel comfortable, validated, and safe.
