Brandon never judged, never stopped working, never stopped trying and fighting, and never tried to influence the family.
My friend passed away Sunday morning in your ICU. Brandon was his nurse at 7 pm. He is an angel. As a nurse and the POA, this was the hardest thing I've had to do. Honor your best friend's wishes, please the family, which is extremely large, and do what you know is right medically, was a war. Brandon never judged, never stopped working, never stopped trying and fighting, and never tried to influence the family. He just cared. He comforted, he monitored, he reported changes. He was kind and soft-spoken, gentle with responses to questions, yet honest. He was nothing shy of amazing. His energy meant everything to the family and me. Sometimes we get so hardened that we forget why we became a nurse, and when decisions are made that we disagree with, it shows in our actions and facial expressions. We forget this is someone's everything. Being in this position opened my eyes in a way I cannot explain.

Brandon handled them with kid gloves, care, compassion, honesty, and they felt his heart. He was my best friend for over 25 years. Our kids grew up together, so this was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Brandon made this feel OK somehow. The family and I wish to extend our highest praise and gratitude to him and the staff at West Chester Hospital. This hospital is more than what people see on the outside. It has held my heart for many years. The staff in this ICU and step-down are very special people. I'm sure I'm forgetting many more people, and I'm sorry for that. This was a 2-plus-year process with many hospitalizations. I wouldn't have wanted him anywhere else. Brandon provided a wonderful man with the dignity, comfort, and compassion he deserved to leave this world. This is why I love this group and have always been drawn to it. Thank you again.
