Having developed a strong, trusting relationship with the patient, Paige immediately recognized that something was wrong when the patient did not show up for his appointments and could not be reached. Her compassion and commitment to being sure of the patient's well-being urged her to follow up.
I am writing to nominate Paige Harry for the DAISY Award in recognition of her exceptional care and dedication to our patients. Throughout her career at Atrium Health, I have had the pleasure of witnessing Paige demonstrate the highest level of compassion and professionalism, making a lasting impact on every patient she cares for, both inpatient and outpatient.

One instance that stands out was when Paige cared for a patient with Mantle cell lymphoma, who had been facing numerous challenges, including complex medical issues and severe emotional distress due to a lack of support, and financial hardship. The patient canceled one visit and then no-showed the next day. Having developed a strong, trusting relationship with the patient, Paige immediately recognized that something was wrong when the patient did not show up for his appointments and could not be reached. Her compassion and commitment to being sure of the patient's well-being urged her to follow up. After making several attempts to reach the patient by phone and keeping in mind that the patient lacked a support system, Paige contacted EMS and asked that they do a wellness check. Although it is unfortunate that the patient was found deceased in his home, it is fortunate that the patient had a nurse who was determined to know his whereabouts. This patient could have easily been "lost" in the system, but Paige's ability to see more than just a patient with EVERY patient she cares for will allow his life to be remembered and celebrated properly. I am sure that you can ask almost anyone who has worked with her to give a similar story of her going above and beyond, and they will have their own story to tell.

What sets Paige apart is their ability to build meaningful relationships with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary care team. Her compassion, coupled with her communication skills, is exemplary, ensuring that patients and families are respected, informed, involved in the care process, and advocated for, which is the true embodiment of what the DAISY Award stands for. For all these reasons and more, I believe Paige is truly deserving of the DAISY Award. Her impact on patient care and the lives of everyone she touches is immeasurable. She is truly a true asset to our healthcare team.
