This nurse was the kindest, most sympathetic, caring, loving person I think I have ever met.
My brother-in-law came into the emergency room by ambulance. After receiving life-sustaining care, he was admitted to the ICU. The next day, the ICU nurse told the family he would be the patient's primary private nurse during his stay. This nurse was the kindest, most sympathetic, caring, loving person I think I have ever met. He was extremely patient with our many questions. Being with a loved one on life support is overwhelming, especially when you can't accept what is happening. So many machines and not a clue what any of them did. This nurse was with us every minute of the way until the death of the patient. He was so detailed in the explanation of the purpose of the machines. He explained the sounds coming from the patient and was frequently fixing the blankets that were keeping the patient cold and hot as we kept messing them while we were hugging and kissing the patient. He told us he wanted to keep the patient as comfortable as possible. He brought us drinks, snacks, and was so attentive, and most of all gave us hugs and pats on our hands and backs to comfort. He didn't miss a single detail. We asked for a clergy visit, and he immediately took care of this request. He kept the room neat and organized and made sure that we had Kleenex and that we were also comfortable. He offered condolences just like he was part of the family, and was so sincere and believable. We know we would not have gotten through the entire ordeal without the support and genuine concern from this nurse.
