Jenny got down on the floor with him and sat there until the patient was ready to get up. She was able to help the patient calm down and feel safe.
Jenny has been a nurse on this unit for about a year. I have no idea what we did without her before she joined our team! She is an asset to our patients, especially to the patients who struggle with mental health.
We had a patient on our floor who suffered from an array of mental health issues. The patient was hallucinating and very scared for their safety. All the hospital sounds were triggering to this patient. A specific instance I want to highlight: the patient left their room and was very scared because they thought that they heard a gunshot, claiming someone was setting him up. The patient was really upset and restless. Jenny jumped up to help the patient. She approached him and remained calm. She told him that she would go do a perimeter check and make sure there was nothing to worry about. The patient decided to sit on the floor in the hallway because they were so upset. Jenny got down on the floor with him and sat there until the patient was ready to get up. She was able to help the patient calm down and feel safe. The patient returned to their room shortly after, and all was well.
I have never seen a nurse do anything like that! My jaw quite literally dropped. Jenny has a way of remaining calm no matter what the situation. She is extremely therapeutic and always knows exactly what to say in every situation. She is an exceptional nurse and deserves recognition for consistently going above and beyond to meet the needs of our patients.
