It is with great admiration that I recommend Merci Alexandre-Jackson for the DAISY Award. I have had the privilege of witnessing Merci grow into an exceptional nursing student who symbolizes the highest standards of the nursing profession. At the start of clinical, Merci was noticeably timid and reserved. I will never forget that on the first day of clinical, she was caring for a confused patient who was unable to provide verbal consent for a blood pressure check. Merci felt uncertain and hesitant. We talked about implied consent and how to navigate the situation to provide the best care possible for the patient. Through that experience, she gained confidence in her skills and demonstrated compassionate care.

This moment reflects Merci’s commitment to ensuring every patient feels valued, heard, and cared for.  Not only did I witness Merci provide patient-centered care every day, every time to her patients, but she also came to class and clinical with a smile on her face. Her kindness and unwavering positivity create a ripple effect, lifting everyone around her. Beyond her excellent caring abilities, Merci is highly motivated and seeks out learning opportunities to expand her knowledge and refine her skills. She is driven by a deep commitment to personal and professional growth.
