Rachael assumed care of a patient, and subsequently her 4-year-old son, who was being evaluated for injuries from a domestic assault. The mother and son had been in the EC for several hours; however, outpatient resources, along with a safe ride home, hadn’t been figured out/considered. Rachael took it upon herself to investigate options for both of them. She found safe housing, safe travel accommodations, and truly set them up for success upon discharge.

Not only did she organize outpatient resources, but she also truly put her heart into this patient and her situation. She was not judgmental, listened wholeheartedly, cried, and cared for this woman and her son with deep compassion. She developed a trusting relationship with her, and he young woman opened up to her and divulged info she hadn’t spoken of in the several hours prior.

To top it off, Rachael went to the gift shop and bought herself a cozy pajama set because she figured, who doesn’t like clean, comfy jammies! She is a remarkable RN, caring, and a beautiful soul. She is genuine and thoughtful and deserves to be recognized for the amazing nurse that she is.
