That day, Samar's kindness and thoughtful attention not only alleviated my mother’s physical discomfort but also helped to heal her emotionally.
When my mother was first diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, we never anticipated the overwhelming emotional and physical challenges that would follow. The very first day she began palliative chemotherapy, she experienced a GI bleed that left her frightened and confused. It was a terrifying moment for both of us, and she didn’t fully understand what was happening to her body. The fear in her eyes was something I’ll never forget. But in that moment, Samar stepped in with a level of compassion and care that changed everything for my mother and me.
Samar's presence was nothing short of calming. She approached my mom with such kindness, taking the time to speak to her softly and patiently, explaining what was going on and reassuring her that she was not alone. She immediately made sure my mother was comfortable, both physically and emotionally, and respected her need for privacy when she felt overwhelmed. But what truly made Samar stand out was her genuine care for my mother’s well-being beyond just her medical needs. She wasn’t just a nurse going through the motions—she was a person who deeply understood the emotional toll that cancer can take. She ensured that the entire medical team was on the same page, working together seamlessly to give my mom the best care possible. Before she finished her shift, she made a point to come back and check on my mom one last time. She bent down, gave her a warm hug, and wished her comfort, ease, and peace. That simple, heartfelt gesture was more than just a goodbye—it was a message of hope and reassurance, something my mom needed desperately in that moment.
That day, Samar's kindness and thoughtful attention not only alleviated my mother’s physical discomfort but also helped to heal her emotionally. It gave her the strength to face the difficult road ahead, knowing she was in the hands of someone who truly cared. Her compassion made an indelible impact on my mother’s psychological well-being, and for that, we will forever be grateful.
