He was advocating for my father in the standup every day meeting with the staff at rounds. He always had my father's well-being in mind.
My father was driven to St. Anthony's Lakewood after suffering from a major stroke. Bryce was our ICU nurse. Here is my definition of Bryce:
N=n for Nurturing
U=u for Understanding
R=r for Respectful
S=s for Strong
E=e for extraordinary
N for Nurturing: Bryce was so nurturing to my father; he treated him as if he were his own father. It was very wonderful to see. He was advocating for my father in the standup every day meeting with the staff at rounds. He always had my father's well-being in mind. My mother even offered to adopt him and take him home with us so we can have Bryce take care of my father. Bryce made a lasting impression on our family.
U for Understanding: Bryce wasn't only understanding towards my father but also towards anyone who would come into my father's room. He understood all the technical terms that were spoken at the rounds meetings, and after the rounds, made sure to come back to the family to see if we understood what was stated. Bryce was always making sure the family understood the next steps.
R for Respectful: From the minute Bryce came into my father's room to when he left, he not only treated my father with respect but also the rest of the family. He asked if the family needed anything. Like I said above, he treated my father as if he were his own father.
S for Strong: Bryce showed his strength in many ways, physically, mentally, and intellectually. My father wasn't a large man physically, but at a dead weight, is quite heavy. Bryce would get another nurse to help him, but I know that is a procedure; I fully figured he could have done it all by himself. Mentally, Bryce would be sure to not only understand the needs of my father but also the family. Brilliant. Intellectually, he is one smart cookie!
E for Extraordinary: Bryce was the BEST nurse we had the whole time my father was in the ICU or ER. He was compassionate and determined to provide the best care for my father in a very professional way. He went above and beyond to prove to our family that he deserves the DAISY Award above anyone else.
Note: This is Bryce's 2nd DAISY Award!
