Andrade, Janetha demonstrated extraordinary compassion, leadership, and skill.
It is with great pride and sincere admiration that I nominate Andrade, Janetha, Nurse Manager of the Mother-Baby Unit at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. She exemplifies everything this honor represents: clinical excellence, compassionate care, visionary leadership, and an unwavering commitment to both patients and staff.
In one of the most emotionally significant units in the hospital, where new life begins and families are formed, Andrade, Janetha leads with unmatched integrity, warmth, and wisdom. She ensures that every mother, baby, and family member receives not only the highest standard of care but also the emotional support needed during such a vulnerable and transformative time.
Under her leadership, the unit has flourished. Staff retention has improved due to her emphasis on professional development, team-building, and emotional well-being. She actively advocates for evidence-based practices, promotes continued education, and inspires excellence through her example. Whether helping a new nurse navigate a challenging situation or comforting a family in crisis, Andrade, Janetha always goes above and beyond.
One of the most notable aspects of her practice is her ability to blend clinical skill with humanity. Patients routinely express their gratitude for the gentle, respectful, and personalized care their families receive. Colleagues describe her as a steadying presence, a tireless advocate, and a true servant leader.
Andrade, Janetha demonstrated extraordinary compassion, leadership, and skill. She is always reachable; she will reply to staff emails or texts at midnight or early morning. She also keeps teaching us a lot of new things that help improve patient care. As a leader, she helps the floor with everything, from hard-stick IVs to wheeling patients to the NICU to cleaning the food tray or room. Anything, even if staff do not ask for anything, but if she knows you are busy, she is always there for you. Andrade, Janetha is also a great leader by always listening to her team and accepting change if it needs to be. As a manager, she supports staff in everything we need. It is rare to encounter a nursing leader who balances heart and skill so seamlessly.
