It is with great admiration and respect that I nominate Lance Viau, Charge Nurse in the Adult Operating Room at UCSF Mission Bay, for the DAISY Award. Lance embodies the highest standards of nursing care, consistently demonstrating the UCSF PRIDE values in his everyday practice. His dedication to excellence, teamwork, and compassion has made a lasting impact on both patients and his colleagues. He demonstrates an extraordinary compassion in his nursing practice.
P - Professionalism: Lance approaches every task with a level of professionalism that inspires confidence. As a Charge Nurse, he leads by example, maintaining the highest standards of care, ensuring patient safety, and handling difficult situations with calm and skill. His vast knowledge and commitment to continuous learning have made him an indispensable resource for the entire operating room team.
R- Respect: Lance treats every individual with the utmost respect, whether it's a patient, family member, or colleague. He listens attentively to concerns, communicates clearly, and takes time to address any questions. His respectful attitude fosters a positive work environment and promotes strong relationships with the diverse team members he supervises.

He never hesitates to stay late or step in to assist with a case, ensuring that everything runs smoothly even in high-pressure situations. When cases are delayed, he takes responsibility and advocates for patients. When staff need breaks and he has relief, he provides it himself.

I am writing to nominate my colleague, Lance Viau, for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. As a fellow Operating Room nurse, I have had the privilege of working alongside Lance in various high-pressure situations, and I have seen firsthand the remarkable care, dedication, and expertise they consistently bring to our team and patients.
1. Demonstrating Clinical Excellence:
Lance continually demonstrates an exceptional level of clinical expertise and skill in the operating room. Since I've been here, Lance started as a skilled staff to a knowledgeable preceptor, and now has stepped into the leadership role as charge nurse. Whether it's troubleshooting complex procedures, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, or managing equipment, he is always prepared and precise. I've witnessed Lance step in and take charge in challenging situations, ensuring both patient safety and smooth surgical operations, all while remaining calm and composed.
2. Compassion and Patient Care:
What truly sets Lance apart is his compassion for patients. He has an innate ability to make patients feel heard, safe, and cared for, even in the most intimidating of settings.
