My husband had a severe hematoma that required surgery and antibiotics. We arrived Tuesday afternoon and were met by a wonderful nurse. She came in, got him settled, and kindly asked how I was doing. All this was traumatic and unexpected. It was my husband's first time being in the hospital, having an IV, and very first surgery. He needed wound dressings changed, and she was there anytime it started to leak through. Very gentle and attentive in all her actions. She made sure his pain levels were as low as possible. She made sure he received something to eat because he had to be without food after midnight. She personally checked his blood sugar because he is Type 2 diabetic and had an injury. She had a sweet demeanor and helped ease the frazzled nerves about what's next. It was obvious she cares for her patients and their spouses. She was very kind to me, and she got me a snack because I hadn't eaten all day, and the cafeteria was closed. That night was very difficult for both of us, and she was a ray of sunshine in an otherwise dark moment. I'm typing this for my husband as he is recovering at home.
