From Bethany’s patients who cannot speak for themselves, everyone appreciates these kind gestures and simple acts of kindness.
This is long overdue to select Bethany to receive a DAISY recognition. DAISY is about the little things that matter to the patients. Bethany’s patients cannot always speak about how they enjoy all the little things Bethany has done for them.
Bethany does this with all our patients, but especially our long-term (the gray patients). We have many on 3 West, and they have become family. Bethany is always going out of her way to get them extra special things to make their stay on 3 West a better experience. Bethany will go and buy them whatever they want to make them a little happier.
Here are a few examples. One patient was here for 365 days or more; Bethany would make him special cookies and would bring him special snacks. We have a young gentleman who did not have the best behavior, but would do anything for Gatorade and Pepsi. Well, Bethany always has a stash in her office for him. We have a gentleman whose family cannot care for him any longer. He will not eat for us, so Bethany figured out a few things that he enjoys, especially Oreos. He even asked for the lady with the Oreos. He has dementia, so he cannot remember from day to day what he likes or who we are. But he enjoys his Oreos.
Bethany makes sure all our patients get their special needs met daily, but she does have a soft spot for all our long-term patients. She makes sure they are dressed daily to make them feel at home, has special treats to make their day a little better, and is just a kind touch to all these patients.
