This morning, during RRTP veteran breakfast, a veteran began choking—an event that could have had tragic consequences. Without hesitation, Emma followed the choking veteran to the veteran kitchen area and immediately assessed the situation, recognizing the signs of complete airway obstruction. In a matter of seconds, she sprang into action, relieving the second veteran who had already begun the Heimlich, and she, herself, performed the Heimlich maneuver with precision and confidence. Thanks to her swift and decisive response, the veteran was able to clear the obstruction and breathe again. Emma’s quick thinking and exceptional clinical skills undoubtedly saved this veteran’s life.

Emma is not just a hero in moments of crisis; she is a role model of dedication and teamwork every single day. Whether providing compassionate care to veterans, mentoring fellow nurses, or supporting the interdisciplinary team, she brings a positive and collaborative spirit that uplifts everyone around her.
