One of the most striking aspects of Sonia's approach is her compassion. I have seen Sonia take the time to listen to patients, offering them emotional support in moments of fear or uncertainty. One specific example that jumps out to me is with our Spanish-speaking patients. Sonia is such a great resource for these patients. I can't imagine coming in for surgery and being so scared and afraid and not speaking the native language. We had a patient coming in for a joint replacement, and when I went to the lobby to get them, I realized they didn't speak English. Sonia had volunteered to come in extra when she saw we had multiple Spanish-speaking patients on the schedule. Sonia quickly came into the room and began speaking with the family and patient. You could see the sense of relief come across the patient's face just by her presence. She goes above and beyond every single shift she works and it is so evident in the patients and how highly they speak of her. She advocated for this patient and the family to make sure they felt comfortable and understood. She even goes to the recovery room to translate and provide continuity of care!

What truly sets Sonia apart is her willingness to go above and beyond for her patients. She consistently takes extra steps to ensure the patients receive the highest standard of care, whether it's coming in extra or staying late to ensure all patient concerns are addressed, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, or helping ease patient anxiety. Her patients often say her voice is so comforting, and she brings them a sense of peace! It is truly amazing to watch the way she cares and interacts with her patients.
