She had an approachable demeanor that created a safe space for my mom.
My mom was hospitalized at Onslow Memorial Hospital from the beginning of November until she took her very last breath in December. Although most of the workers on her team were terrific, Glanise, a young lady, stood out to me the most. Glanise just seemed like a genuinely happy nurse who radiated warmth and positivity in her interactions with my family. For example, throughout our time in this hospital, my mom would often have anxiety and panic attacks that would warrant other nurses to call the emergency number so more help would come, but one night, she had one of these episodes, and all Glanise had to do was sit, deep breathe, and talk with her. Until my mother passed away, she would always speak about this wonderful nurse who made her hospital stay unforgettable. This young lady would always take time out of her busy nights to chit-chat with my mom. Even though this hospitalization ended in despair for our family, it would be a crime not to nominate this nurse. She had an approachable demeanor that created a safe space for my mom. Until she took her last breath, Glanise provided the best care that she could. She gave our family hope when there was none. You can always tell when someone loves their profession, and this young lady absolutely demonstrated what it means to be a nurse.
