Kathryn went above and beyond in her care of one of her patients on Father's Day. Her patient was wheelchair-bound and suffering from a progressive neuromuscular disease. He had been depressed and withdrawn while stuck in the ICU. Kathryn spent over an hour sitting in his room on Father's Day watching the US Open and discussing their favorite golfers after discovering golf was one of his favorite things. When Kathryn updated the patient's wife over the phone that she had gotten him up in the chair, sitting by the window, and watching golf, she began to cry. His wife stated, "That makes me so happy! He told me the other day that it feels like people are just waiting for him to die." The patient's wife also suffers from mobility issues, and Kathryn made sure to go at a speed comfortable for both the patient and his wife. Once the patient's wife arrived at the hospital to visit, Kathryn took the patient on a tour around the hospital and even managed to get him outside to enjoy the sun. Kathryn always provides personalized, patient-centered care to her patients. She was able to put a smile on her patient's face, as well as on his family's.
