I would like to recognize and nominate Ms. Dianna Watson, RN, for the DAISY Award as an amazing and compassionate nurse. Recently, I had to bring my husband into the emergency room after getting home from work. He was severely dehydrated and lethargic and had a blood glucose level of over 500 when he came in. I was impressed as she managed to insert two 20-gauge IVs and immediately started him on IV fluids, insulin, and potassium, and had a complete workup done to determine what else was going on. I honestly believed that I was going to lose him had it not been for the care and treatment he received in the emergency room by Dianna and the team. Dianna Watson, RN, took all of this in stride, maintaining a calm demeanor, and was diligent in ensuring he was getting the care he needed while somehow finding the time to check on me. I never saw her flinch as she moved from patient to patient, attending to both of us. She offered an angelic smile throughout the entire ordeal, which gave me the reassurance and hope I needed that my family would remain intact. Once he was stable enough to be admitted, she provided regular updates and offered encouraging words that gave me a sense of peace I so desperately needed in that moment. Throughout the night, she monitored him as he continued on the insulin drip and did not stop caring for us up until the end of her shift. The care she provided to not only him but to me as a family member left an indelible impression that I will always remember. Dianna Watson is an exemplary human being and an angel in scrubs. He was subsequently admitted and discharged home. My sincere gratitude and unwavering admiration goes to Ms. Watson. I am forever grateful to Dianna for the care she provided and for making sure I continue to have my husband by my side. Thank you for the wonderful nursing care at Montefiore.
