Anisa empathized with me and made me feel seen and heard. She answered all of my questions with kindness and clarity and took the time to make sure I understood everything that was happening.
I was induced and had an extremely long and hard labor and delivery process. Anisa was my nurse during both nights of this two-day ordeal and was absolutely outstanding. She was so personable, kind, and attentive, and she went above and beyond for me and my baby. After the first night, she gave us an adorable handmade hat and was texting our day nurse asking for updates. It was clear to me that she wasn’t just doing her job, she genuinely cared about us.
The second night, we had some irregularities with the baby’s heartbeat that indicated we may have to do an emergency C-section. I was so scared and wanted to avoid that outcome so badly. Anisa empathized with me and made me feel seen and heard. She answered all of my questions with kindness and clarity and took the time to make sure I understood everything that was happening. Then, she worked tirelessly throughout the night to come up with solutions and try everything she possibly could to help me. She consulted other nurses and doctors and worked so hard to implement every intervention and solution her and the team could possibly think of. In the early morning, my doctor came in and informed me that, unfortunately, it was very likely I was going to need a C-section. But then, she checked my cervix, looked up and said, "I have no idea how this happened, but you’re dilated to a 9.5! Anisa worked some magic last night!" The last time they checked I was only at a 4 and it had taken a long time to even get to that point so to hear I had progressed that far was a miracle. It meant that I was going to have a chance to have a vaginal delivery and it was the best news after such a long and hard 38 hours. Anisa and I looked at each other in this moment and burst into tears. Not only did she cry with me during this moment, but she also came back the next night during her shift to visit us in the postpartum unit and meet my baby.
I could not sing her praises enough, she is a literal angel on Earth and I will always be so grateful for her. Anisa exemplifies every element of what a nurse should be and goes above and beyond for her patients. She is incredible, and no one deserves this award more than her!
