My wife and I weren’t expecting our first child for five more weeks. So, being transported by ambulance to Baycare was unsettling and put us both on edge, assuming something would be terribly wrong with our baby. My wife labored for 53+ hours, and Stacy was her nurse over 2 night shifts. When my wife’s labor was at its most intense, Stacy did an outstanding job of slowing things down, ensuring my wife and I had all the necessary information, knew all the options, and respected and honored our requests. Stacy could see we were both very nervous. She bonded with my wife through their shared ER experience and adjusted her treatment and communication style based on our needs. We’re both very straightforward, to the point people who appreciate very direct communication, which Stacy provided. Her sharp emotional intelligence made our stay all the better. She even identified my worry and impatience and gave me tasks to help my wife and our unborn child. These tasks included helping my wife stretch and adjust to make sure the baby was in the proper position for birth. These may have been small tasks, but they made a world of difference for me. Prior to Stacy, I felt helpless and useless in this process. Stacy changed all that and made our entire experience a positive one.
