Megan was the charge nurse for the low side of our floor. The primary nurse came up to the nurse's station looking for the charge nurse for her side. When she didn't see her (it was obvious she was concerned about something), Megan asked if she needed help. The nurse said yes, that she had been unable to get anything out of the 3-way foley, and the continuous bladder fluid had placed over 1,000 ml inside the patient with no return out. Megan immediately grabbed supplies and headed to the patient's room. She didn't hesitate to assist another nurse even though it was not technically on her side. She continued to work with the patient, irrigating the bladder/foley and removing clot after clot to ensure the patient had relief. Additionally, she guided the nurse on contacting the attending to help fix the patient and his current condition. She exemplified what it means to be a charge nurse and what a leader on the floor should do in such an incident. Her experience and her willingness to assist the patient and the nurse during this incident are the epitome of what a seasoned nurse/charge nurse should do and reflect great credit upon herself and the 1 West team.
