It is almost certainly due to Kaitlyne's excellent nursing care, rapid response, and determination not to see history repeat itself that the patient was stabilized and survived to be transferred.
OB nursing is always fast-paced, and things can change in an instant. There is always the risk of dealing with a baby who doesn't want to do well in the outside world or a mom who bleeds too much, but if you ask any OB nurse what their greatest fear is, they would probably say amniotic fluid embolism. On Halloween night, Kaitlyne Ellis came face to face with this nightmare for the second time, not just in her career but in the span of 14 short months. Kaitlyne, along with the doctor, recognized the event for what it was and worked quickly, efficiently, and expertly to mobilize the unit and response team as well as stabilize the patient. It is almost certainly due to Kaitlyne's excellent nursing care, rapid response, and determination not to see history repeat itself that the patient was stabilized and survived to be transferred. Kaitlyne stayed at the patient’s side from the moment she came on shift until the patient was in the ambulance to Indianapolis and exhibited compassion and level-headedness throughout. Words cannot express how incredibly lucky we are to have Kaitlyne as a coworker and how proud we are of how she handled everything.
