Melissa and all the nurses were the most comforting, unjudgmental, patient, and real persons we have ever met.
My father has lived in Corinth, MS, for most of his life, and though we kids knew he always wanted to be independent, we always urged him to move back to Florida with us so we could take care of him. We knew his health was failing, and we had to make some difficult decisions. He had metastatic cancer, so even though we did not want to face the loss of our father, Melissa kept us updated by phone until we could fly into MS. Honestly, we did not want to let our daddy go, but Melissa never pushed us to make a decision. I remember one day when our daddy was in pain, and Melissa called the doctor to ask for a medicine that was stronger. My brother and I took turns staying in the room with him around the clock, and Melissa always asked us if we needed anything for the family. She was so kind and even went to the cafeteria to buy us Diet Coke and snacks. The day that will ever stick in my mind is the day when our daddy had such a lucid day, and he grabbed Melissa’s hand, opened his eyes, looked at her, and stated, “You are so kind.” My brother and I became teary, and then Melissa began to cry with us, thanking him for such a wonderful compliment. We knew we had to make the decision to make him a do-not-resuscitate. What this nurse brought to my brother and me was priceless. Melissa and all the nurses were the most comforting, unjudgmental, patient, and real persons we have ever met. My brother and I hope your hospital realizes what compassionate, caring, and truly loving nurses you have working for you.
