Jenny Belen is a role model to everyone who has had the opportunity to work with her on the night shift. Over the last 24 years, Jenny has earned the nickname “The Ninja” for her high level of skill and effectiveness, coupled with doing so silently. Jenny has precepted many of the nurses who have worked in the Trauma ICU and has instilled what it means to be a TICU nurse. Her ownership of this unit makes her one of our most fearless charge nurses who will face any challenge and will do so to the highest degree possible. Whether it was leading the team through the staffing shortages during the COVID 19 pandemic or being part of the 8 nurses who cared for the patients on the early morning of June 12, 2016, during the Pulse Nightclub shooting, or being a cancer survivor who moved her return-to-work date to an earlier date due to staffing constraints, Jenny has exemplified the meaning commitment. I am honored to have been trained and to get to work with a nurse like Jenny “The Ninja” Belen, and I believe she is very deserving of this DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award.
