Her dedication to elevating the profession has left a lasting legacy, ensuring that nursing continues to evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of healthcare.
Throughout her distinguished career in nursing, Judy has exemplified extraordinary compassion, clinical excellence, and an unwavering commitment to patients, colleagues, and the profession as a whole. With over 40 years of service in healthcare, Judy has not only provided outstanding direct patient care but has also served as a mentor, leader, and advocate for both patients and fellow nurses. She has consistently demonstrated the core values of nursing—compassion, integrity, and dedication—leaving a lasting impact on countless individuals. Judy has been a beacon of compassionate care, always going above and beyond to ensure the well-being of her patients.

Whether through direct patient care to the community’s pediatric population for more than 20 years, or as a charge nurse mentoring and raising up new nurses on the 4th floor, or as a unit director for the 4th floor for the last 15 years, Judy has played a pivotal role in improving patient outcomes and enhancing the overall experience of those in her care.

Additionally, she has guided and inspired countless professionals through mentorships, education, and leadership, fostering a culture of learning, support, and professional growth. Her dedication to elevating the profession has left a lasting legacy, ensuring that nursing continues to evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of healthcare. As a testament to her lifetime of service, Judy leaves a legacy that lives on in the nurses she has inspired and the patients whose lives she has touched. Many call her “Momma Judy” as she has taken such an interest in the younger generation and made it her mission to develop in them a solid foundation for not only a career in healthcare, but with life in general. With all that Judy has accomplished, and the list is long, there is one moment in time that defined her career and illuminated her innate leadership.

When her team was struck by the devastating news that one of their own, a beloved patient care associate and colleague, had died by suicide, it sent shockwaves through the unit. The weight of grief, confusion, and loss was overwhelming. Many staff members were struggling not only with their emotions but also with how to continue providing care while carrying such a profound personal and professional loss. In that moment, Judy became the steady, compassionate force they all needed. Recognizing the deep emotional impact on the team, she took immediate steps to ensure that no one grieved alone. She coordinated on-site emotional support services, facilitated open conversations about mental health, and created a safe space for staff to process their grief together.

Judy made it clear that it was okay not to be okay and encouraged staff to seek support. This tragedy could have left her team feeling broken, isolated, and unsupported. Instead, because of Judy’s remarkable leadership, it became a turning point—a moment when the culture of her unit shifted toward openness, compassion, and advocacy for the mental health of nurses. Judy’s legacy is one of unwavering compassion, courageous leadership, and a steadfast belief in the power of community and support. She exemplifies the very best of nursing—not only in how she cares for patients but in how she cares for the caregivers.
