Samuel was like a guardian angel… like a protector.
This is being translated by my sister, who has taken more ESL classes and can write better:

When I was in the emergency room, I felt very ill and did not know why I was so sick. I was later told I had sepsis. Samuel was my night shift nurse, but I was at the hospital for hours before he became my nurse. During that time, the other nurses had to poke me 5 times to get an IV, but it failed every time. I do not speak English well enough, and I was not able to ask why I had to be poked so many times. I also just kept feeling more sick. I felt so bad, I was afraid I might die. It felt like no one could see me… like people didn't notice how sick I was.

When Samuel came to my room, he used the phone to call someone to translate for me. He took my temperature and said I had a fever. He kept coming back to my room with people, and he brought the doctor. She had to do an IV in my leg. When Samuel came, I could see the concern on his face. I told him I was scared and that I felt very ill. He said that he believed me and he could tell how sick I was, and he was going to do everything he could for me. Samuel was always in my room. He explained to me why I felt so sick, and he was the first person who gave me medicine. He asked the doctor many times for medicine to help me. He also explained to me all the medicines he was giving me and why I needed them. He spent a lot of time in my room with me.

For the first time, I felt seen. I felt like I could breathe again. Samuel was like a guardian angel… like a protector. He made me feel that I would be okay. Before he was my nurse, I was very confused about why I was sick and how long it would take to get better, or if I even could get better. He explained to me what sepsis is and how they were fixing it. From the first time he saw me, everything started to get better. He was very fast in taking care of me and telling the doctor how sick I was. I felt like I wasn't invisible anymore, like he really saw me. I don't know what would have happened if I didn't have him that day in the emergency room, but I am very glad I did. I believe in my heart he saved me. I will never forget what Samuel did for me.
