I would like to nominate Jan Fitch, BSN, RN Endoscopy Manager for the Lifetime Achievement Award. Jan has dedicated her life to nursing and making healthcare a better place even in the midst of adversity. She strongly led the endoscopy unit during the Covid-19 pandemic and kept the morale of employees through strong, steadfast, and quiet guidance. She helps overcome obstacles with ease and provides a steady hand during busy days and a listening ear during both happy and sad times.

Jan announced her retirement plans for this year, and I cannot think of a better way for OHSU HMC to honor her time and commitment to the organization than with this award. Jan sees the strengths in her team members and places them into roles that ensure happiness and job satisfaction, along with promoting a well-run unit. She is an advocate for nurses and has been a role model and mentor to the nursing staff in the unit by helping nurses reach their full potential, many through the achievement of advanced degrees. We will all miss Jan when she leaves, but she has made a lasting impact on the nursing profession and everyone she has come into contact with.
