She totally turned my spirit around!
On May 15, 2021, I had an accident and punctured my leg. I thought I knew how to nurse my own wound and didn’t think much of it. Very soon, it began to grow a huge abscess. It had to be lanced. I had to go to the nurse's station 2 times a week to have the wound checked. It would not heal and was getting more and more infected. I was in so much pain, several series of antibiotics, and still no change, just getting increasingly worse.
At that point, I was sent to the Wound specialist at Kaiser Vacaville. Nurse Santillo has been the nurse overseeing my care. I was feeling depressed started thinking I may lose my leg or even worse, this could be what ends my life. I just didn’t see an end in sight with this wound. From my very first visit, Nurse Mary was so amazing. She totally turned my spirit around! Nurse Mary was so positive and told me I would heal it will take time, but she knows it is going to heal.
some wayFrom that moment on, my healing process totally turned around. She educated me on how to nurse my wound at home and how to work on my overall health. I am happy to report my blood pressure is where it needs to be. I am no longer borderline diabetic, and the swelling in my legs is not happening anymore.
Nurse Mary gave me so much hope. She treated me like I was her family. She is funny, she keeps you smiling, and she is a wound whisperer as I refer to her. Nurse Mary not only healed my wound, she healed my spirit. I just hope she can get acknowledged in someway for the amazing care she gives to the patients and all the lives she touches. I know I am much healthier today after her touching my life.
