I came to Methodist to have my baby, and Abby took care of her (and my husband) when I couldn’t. I had a very low-risk pregnancy and delivery, but unfortunately, soon after birth, I started hemorrhaging, and because of the amount of blood I lost, I couldn’t hold my baby since I was so lightheaded and out of it. Abby was the newborn nurse at my delivery and was quick to jump in when I told her I couldn’t hold my baby anymore. She took over right away and cared for my baby, even helping my husband finger-feed her since I couldn’t feed her initially because of my condition. She sat with my husband and reassured him while the rest of the room felt chaotic. He says that he felt so taken care of as Abby showed him how to be there for his baby when I couldn’t. He still talks about Abby and how safe she made him feel when everything else was going on. She also took so many pictures and videos of my baby for me on my phone, which I now treasure since I couldn’t really be present in that moment. We still talk about Abby and how much of an impact she made months later, and are so thankful she was there for our baby and our family.
