Samantha’s actions that day were life-changing—not just for this young woman, but for the countless others she continues to help.
I would like to nominate Samantha Bailey, RN, for the DAISY Award in recognition of her extraordinary compassion, dedication, and advocacy for our patients here at Methodist Hospital Atascosa. Since joining our team, Samantha has consistently gone above and beyond, particularly for some of our most vulnerable patients—those presenting to the Emergency Department due to possible sexual assault, domestic violence, or human trafficking. Her commitment to these individuals is truly inspiring. Sam always ensures that, with the patient’s consent, appropriate steps are taken to involve law enforcement, investigators, Safer Path, and other vital community resources.
Most recently, a 21-year-old female arrived in our department, and Samantha immediately did what she does best—she built trust. Through their conversation, the patient began to open up about the struggles she had been facing. With empathy and grace, Sam simply asked, “Can I help you?” When the patient said yes, Sam never hesitated. She stayed with her, never left her side, and began to advocate fiercely for her safety and well-being. She believed in her patient when she needed it most. Samantha’s actions that day were life-changing—not just for this young woman, but for the countless others she continues to help. Her ability to connect, support, and advocate in critical moments is the very embodiment of the nursing spirit the DAISY Award seeks to recognize. It is with great pride and deep gratitude that I submit this nomination.
