I will never forget the way she held my hand and looked into my eyes with her reassuring smile.
As a first-time mom, I was so excited-but also terrified-when my water broke at 2 am. My husband and I got to the hospital and couldn't believe that I was already 7cm dilated! I had been hoping for an unmedicated birth, so this was a great place to start. We got into a rhythm working through contractions, and a few hours later, I was almost complete, with just a lip of cervix in the way. However, nothing I was doing seemed to help us make that last bit of progress, and I was beginning to get desperate in the pain of transition. Enter Elizabeth! She helped me try so many different positions until we found our way. I began pushing around noon. Unbeknownst to us, our sweet girl had turned asynclitic, and nothing but brute force and loads of encouragement would make her budge. I was beyond ready to give up, but after 4.5 hours of struggle, she finally made her grand debut into the world. I am absolutely sure that if it had not been for Elizabeth's steadfast knowledge, compassion, and coaching, I would have ended up with an emergency C-section, or worse. I will never forget the way she held my hand and looked into my eyes with her reassuring smile. She even smelled like roses. She was our guardian angel and the reason that I can look back on our birth with joy! Thank you, Elizabeth, for being a true treasure of a person and nurse, and making such a huge difference in the most important day of my life.
