This person was the day shift nurse during the beginning part of our stay at ProMedica in Toledo on the Post Partum unit. My husband and I were there for the adoption of our daughter. They were the nurse for our daughter’s birth mama and our daughter for two days. This can be a tricky, more difficult situation in general, but this person demonstrated such professionalism and compassion. Our daughter’s birth mama wanted me in the room with her at first with baby girl, but as the hospital stay continued, she preferred for us to have our own room. Our daughter’s birth mama only spoke Spanish, and they consistently used the interpreter service to ensure her needs were met and to assess her comfort level with the level of interaction she wanted with my husband, baby girl, and me, and that her wishes were being followed. This person also took such great care of our daughter, making sure she was getting the proper care she needed. She ended up having to stay almost a week in the NICU due to low blood sugars, but it was this person’s diligent care that allowed her to receive the proper care she needed. As a nurse myself, I truly understand all the stresses a nurse experiences and the apathy and frustration that can result from certain situations, but none of these things were ever evident with this person. They were the epitome of a great nurse, great advocate, full of compassion. You have a wonderful nurse on staff with this person and we feel very privileged to observe the care they provide their patients. They undoubtedly deserves this award!
