She was very professional, and as a worried husband, I almost immediately felt relieved and comforted by Amanda’s presence.
As first-time parents, we were anxious and excited for the birth of our baby boy. We decided to schedule an induction, since my wife was a week late. We came into the hospital and settled in late Thursday evening. My wife was induced around 11:45 p.m.. Contractions started for her soon after. We decided not to do an epidural initially; however, by 8 a.m., my wife was experiencing a lot of pain. The contractions were intense at this point. Ultimately, my wife decided to go with an epidural to help control the pain and keep her calm for the pushing stage. She got the epidural, and we were told it would take about an hour to kick in and manage the pain.
By 9 a.m., we met our primary nurse, Amanda. She was very professional, and as a worried husband, I almost immediately felt relieved and comforted by Amanda’s presence. She could tell my wife was very uncomfortable seconds after meeting us. She jumped right in and helped my wife by massaging her back and getting her in a better, more comfortable position. My wife had some much-needed relief and comfort. Amanda was not afraid to jump in and help my wife with her pain or discomfort, or answer any questions we had.
Amanda was wonderful throughout the pushing and birth, very encouraging and comforting for my wife and a freaking-out father as well. She was there for us postpartum every step of the way and was great with my wife’s recovery. We loved her so much, we asked Amanda to be included in our home video experience. Amanda graciously accepted and had some kind words for us in our video. We all teared up; it was a special moment for us. As a mother to her 11-year-old daughter, Amanda was wonderful, bringing comfort, life stories, and examples from her experience as a mother to us first-time parents.
Thank you, Amanda.
