Claire's professionalism, acumen, and grace were on full display that day.
A resident physician nominated Claire, stating:
Claire is always an exemplar of great nursing care, but one day in particular with her stands out. She had a difficult assignment with multiple kids, two of whom started becoming more intense as the day progressed; she was also training a new nurse.
One of her kiddos started vomiting, which she promptly took care of, cleaning him up, comforting him, and providing PRN medications, but he started getting more and more sick. As his illness progressed, Claire didn't leave his side. She escalated appropriately and kept her head about her while a Care Team was called. She was never flustered, always demonstrated poise, treated her coworkers with respect and kindness, and even took opportunities to teach her orientee how to perform manual blood pressure checks and provide STAT medications. She showed incredible grace under pressure and made the entire team feel like the patient was in good hands.
And throughout her several hours at the bedside for her sick patient, she kept asking her colleagues for updates on her other patients and making sure they were also getting excellent care. Claire's professionalism, acumen, and grace were on full display that day. Claire is a true leader and a fabulous nurse. As a resident, I am honored to get to work with and learn from her.
