Mallory's display of such great care for this patient and his pet is truly a blessing for him.
The patient was admitted through the ED for shortness of breath. Upon being admitted to the floor, the MD was called to the bedside due to increased respiratory distress. The patient had a service dog who was in an extended stay hotel overnight and had to be picked up first thing in the morning. The patient was insistent on leaving AMA as he needed to tend to his dog, despite the providers expressing how concerned they were. The nursing staff offered to retrieve the patient's service animal from the facility so he could get the care he needed.
The patient stayed several days (he's still here!), and the nursing staff cared for him and his service animal diligently, including taking the dog for walks outside. The patient is in need of a procedure, and after caring for the patient and his pet for several nights, Mallory offered to take the service pet home with her after her shift, so he would be able to go for his procedure and even bring the dog back once the patient was out of his procedure. This patient has had a string of bad luck with his personal life and is very hesitant with medications, etc. Mallory's display of such great care for this patient and his pet is truly a blessing for him. This is just one example of Mallory going above and beyond. Mallory always advocates for what is best for her patients.
