Head Nurse Jamie Mei, RN, is being recognized for being a true professional and subject matter expert in the Operating Room. She is caring and compassionate to both her patients and their peers. She also promotes professional growth and development and is relentless in her objectives of obtaining the best possible outcomes for patients. As the Chairperson of the Professional Governance Committee for Perioperative Services, she actively supports nursing autonomy and encourages nurses to advocate for their patients and for themselves. Very recently, the perioperative team had a challenging experience that required effective leadership. Jamie exhibited great resilience, empathetic support, and communication with the patient’s family and the entire perioperative team. Everyone, the patient’s family and her colleagues, expressed deep gratitude for her leadership. Leading by example, she readily accepted the Employee Assistance Program resources provided to her, and with support from her leadership, she continued to support her colleagues, ensuring that they were provided with a psychologically safe space.
