Abby finished up her duties and stopped by my mom's room to help her do her walk before she left for the evening.
It is with sincere gratitude and heartfelt thanks that I write in to nominate the incredibly kind, caring, skilled, and compassionate nurse Abby for the DAISY Award. My mother arrived at Meritus after a horrible car accident. After surgery, my mom was put in a room and has been there for just about two weeks as of today. While there have been numerous nurses and CNAs who have been wonderful, Abby has one nurse who we hope and pray ends up being assigned to her room throughout her stay.
While Abby is skilled and a great nurse, it is her personality and her heart that set her apart and make her memorable. Abby doesn't speak to patients (or their families) like she's just here to do a job and move on. She is warm, she is personable, and she talks to you and treats you like a friend. It is evident that her approach to her patients is one that recognizes their individuality and humanity, and she goes above and beyond to make them comfortable and care for them the best that she can. Truly, if all nurses were like Abby, the world would be a better place.
Even on the days she wasn't assigned to my mom's room, she would pop by just to say hi and make sure she was having a good day or encourage her. Even when the nurse assigned to my mom's room was busy and didn't have the time to help her walk like my mom was supposed to be doing, Abby finished up her duties and stopped by my mom's room to help her do her walk before she left for the evening. That example just goes to the heart of who Abby consistently proved to be every time we encountered her. She is just honestly such a kind, sweet soul, and I truly hope this nomination results in her wonderful self being recognized on a higher level than just thanks from a patient's daughter. Abby is a gem, and I hope she continues to put the effort into each and every patient who comes her way like she has done for my mom- if so, there is no doubt that every one of those patients would be in capable, compassionate hands.
